Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART) 

The aim of the Advance Resuscitation Techniques (ART) course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and application of oxygen, airway management devices, suction and automated external defibrillators during resuscitation.

Course Content

Upon completion participants will have the skills to follow DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including but not limited to:

  • perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • follow single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
  • respond to at least three simulated first aid scenarios contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:
    • demonstrate safe manual handling techniques
    • clearing the airway using a suction device
    • post-incident debrief and evaluation
    • provide an accurate verbal and written report of the incident

Participants will also develop knowledge relating to State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures including:

  • ARC guidelines relevant to provision of CPR
  • guidelines of Australian national peak clinical bodies
  • safe work practices to deal with risks and potential hazards including manual handling, hazardous substances, dangerous goods and chemicals
  • infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions
  • requirements for currency of skill and knowledge

Pre-Requisites 

To enrol in the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate participants must first meet the listed requirements:

  • The minimum age requirement is at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Participants must also understand and have current knowledge in the area of basic first aid (SLSNT recommends all course enrolments hold a current first aid certificate)

Accreditation and Validity

Your ART Certificate is valid for 1 year
After successfully completing the training, participants will obtain a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:

  • HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation
