The SLSNT Awards of Excellence recognise the achievements and contributions of members and clubs across a range of categories and areas of surf life saving, including Lifesaver of the Year, Athlete of the Year, and the highly-sought after Volunteer of the Year title. 

The next Awards of Excellence will be celebrating the 2024 achievements and details will be announced late 2024. 

  • Nominations should focus on activities during the 2024 season, from 1 January – 31 December 2024
  • Anyone can submit a nomination
  • Winners will be announced at the Awards of Excellence function, details to follow 
  • SLSNT aim to mirror the annual SLSA national Awards as closely as possible and members recognised with an NT Award will be considered for nomination to the SLSA National Excellence Awards, held in November each year

SLSNT considers the following Award categories each year.

Coach, Official and Educator of the Year do not require nominations to be submitted by the clubs. Recipients of these awards are selected by the Honours Committee from a supplied list of accredited individuals.

Surf Lifesaver of the Year An active patrolling member who has made an outstanding contribution to the delivery and development of surf lifesaving frontline services.
Youth Surf Lifesaver of the Year An active patrolling member under the age of 21 who has made an outstanding contribution to the delivery and development of surf lifesaving frontline services.
Volunteer of the Year An impressive member who has made a difference through their volunteering efforts.
Youth Volunteer of the Year An impressive member under the age of 21, who has made  a difference through their volunteering efforts.
Club of the Year An outstanding SLS-affiliated club that is committed to improving the experience of its members, providing a safer environment for the community, and improving club operations.
Athlete of the Year An athlete aged 15 or older who has achieved sporting excellence in Open Aged Competition.
Youth Athlete of the Year An athlete aged between 15-18 who has achieved sporting excellence in Youth and/or Open Aged Competition.
Coach of the Year An accredited coach who has made a significant contribution to athlete performance at a state, national and/or international level, to the development of athletes in SLS activities outside of surf sports, and to the educational development of other coaches in SLS.
Official of the Year An accredited surf sports official who has made a significant contribution to both officiating at a state, national and/or international level, and to the educational development of other officials in SLS.
Educator of the Year An endorsed Trainer or Assessor who is passionate about building the skills of others, consistently delivers a positive learning experience, and who encourages other members to engage in the delivery of training or assessment.
Lifesaving Commendation

Awarded to affiliated clubs and/or their members and/or the public for outstanding deeds of bravery performed during lifesaving operations of SLSA (during and outside of designated patrol hours). This award is presented to lifesavers involved in exceptional rescues. After consideration, a Commendation may be awarded to an individual or group, club or service.
