Surf Life Saving Norther Territory (SLSNT) has had an outstanding year, achieving notable success at both the NT and Australian Training Awards.
A standout achievement was winning Gold in the Small Employer category at the Norther Territory Training Awards, recognising the excellence of our training programs. This accolade highlights out commitment to high- quality education, particularly through our lifeguard induction program, which remains a foundation of our training efforts.
Our success continued on the national stage, where SLSNT earned the Silver Awards at the Australian Training Awards. Competing against leading training organisation from across the country, SLSNT finished second to Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples Prescribed Body Corporate Aboriginal Corporation (GMYPPBC) from Queensland, who took home Gold. Howrah Plumbing from Tasmania secured the Bronze award in this highly competitive category.
These achievements reflect the hard work of our trainers, the effectiveness of our programs, and our ongoing commitment to developing skilled and confident lifeguards. SLSNT remains product to be a leader in training excellence and looks forward to continuing to set the standard in lifesaving education.
The Northern Territory Sports Awards recognise the achievements of athletes, coaches, sporting officials and volunteers. Previous recipients include Olympians, Commonwealth Games champions and those who have excelled at the highest level in national and international competitions.
The awards include eight nominated awards and three non-nominated awards.
The Mindil Beach SLSC Masters Surf Boat Crew raced at the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide in 2018, winning a bronze medal took out the 2019 NT Sports Award for Team of the Year.
Not only is this a massive recognition for the surf club but it is also a huge recognition for Surf Life Saving NT as a movement & organization.
In April 2018, Benn Prowse from Gove Peninsula SLSC won the NT Sports and Recreation Volunteer of the Year for his efforts during 2017. Volunteer of the Year is awarded to an individual who has displayed outstanding conduct as a volunteer in the support, administration, promotion and/or delivery of services to the sport
We believe Benn was the first surf lifesaving member to receive an NT Sports Award and was the SLSNT Volunteer of the Year at the 2017 Awards of Excellence.
