Surf Life Saving NT would like to introduce the newest member of our team BERT! Our Beachside Emergency Response Trailer. BERT is an Emergency Response Beacon connecting the community with a direct line to Lifesavers in an emergency.
BERT is a community asset helping Lifesavers keep our beaches as safe as possible. BERT has a storage compartment that can be accessed in an emergency containing an AED, First Aid kit and vinegar.
What is an emergency response beacon?
Emergency Response Beacons a device placed in locations often used by the community to call Lifesavers in an emergency. BERT is our first ERB in the Territory and is part of a 24-month trial Surf Life Saving NT is running to support the beach users in Darwin.
What is the purpose public rescue equipment (PRE)?
Public Rescue Equipment is another trial Surf Life Saving Australia is running around Australia to gain insights on the use and effectiveness of rescue equipment being available to the Public. BERT will be equipped with a Surf Life Saving Rescue Tube.
Are the cameras always actively recording?
No BERT has cameras that can be activated in an emergency and will be monitored by Lifesavers during activations to support emergency response. The cameras are not designed to be run all the time only during emergencies and will have footage stored on a secure server.
Who does BERT call?
Activating the emergency call button on BERT will call Surf Life Saving NT and connect you with a Lifesaver to assist in emergencies.
What is in the first aid compartment?
BERT has a storage compartment that can be accessed in an emergency containing an AED, First aid kit and vinegar.
What do you do when you hear the siren from BERT?
This will only be activated in the case of an emergency when our lifesavers and first responders need the public to evacuate the water. If you hear a continuous siren coming from BERT please evacuate the water.
